Artist statement

Zahara came to study pottery by chance, when, as a young teenager, her family moved to Japan. there she chose to study arts, Friends took her to a potter’s studio in Bizen, Okayama prefecture ("Bizen yaki"). Zahara ended up staying there for two and half years. During this time she studied under the Japanese master Kaneshige, a descendent from a long line of famous potters (famous for pots used for a traditional tea ceremony and Zen philosophy). On returning to Israel, Zahara graduated with a B.A. in Political Science and Social science from the Tel-Aviv University. She then went on to study at the faculty for Ceramic Design in the "Bezalel Academy of Art and design", under Ziona Shimshi and Lydia Zabatzky. Since the 1990’s, Zahara has been creating and teaching independently. Zahara is a member of the cooperative gallery “Cadim” ceramics gallery in Jerusalem where her works are permanently exhibited and sold. Her works may also be found in the New York museum for Jewish Art as well as private collections. Zahara also takes part in many leading ceramic exhibitions in Israel and around the world.
