Artist statement
The process of creating ceramic works and the unending study of new work methods give me great enjoyment. It’s a process that demands persistence, in terms of studying and hard work
Since most of my work involves utilitarian pots, I give much consideration to the form of the pots and to the compatibility of the clay, the glazes and the firing temperatures to the final use of the pots
I find it important that the pots I create are not only a pleasure to use, feel and handle, but that they are also a pleasure to look at.
I work mainly with stoneware and porcelain and fire my works in an electric kiln to approximately 1240º C.
For decorating my works I use the Sgraffito method. Colored angob is painted over the pots and then carved to expose parts of each pot's body underneath.
